The response to the First Edition of the Antidote-Waite-Smith Motion Picture Tarot Deck, Folio Edition ("Book") has far exceeded all expectations. It has been called "witty and wonderful" "magnificent" and even "transformative." Some enjoyed it so thoroughly that they "were in stitches from the first page to the last" and, perhaps most laudatory of all, one reader proclaimed that he "will live by this book!"
Additionally, a Major Studio is supplementing their proprietary nonlinear dynamic probability models, which they deploy to predict the financial performance of their releases with an iteratively quantized divinatory module employing the principles in the Book &mdash we wish them the best in their endeavor.
On a more troubling note, a small group of recipients rejected the Book outright, perfunctorily returning it as if to deny its very existence. Are they afraid of its power? Perhaps. But their enclosed letters shared a common explanation; these entities will not accept "unsolicited material" for consideration. It's possible they didn't realize the Book was a gift &mdash after all how often does an entertaining and beautifully produced book just arrive, free of charge, on one's desk? That said, could they really be that cynical, suspicious, and so utterly lacking a sense of humor to mistake the Book for a literary submission?
There is another possibility: they returned a gift of their own! Deploying a wit so dry and assured as to bemuse us into utter confusion, they gave us the priceless gift of sophisticated thoughtful humor that has the potential to enliven our every waking moment. If so, such a subtle and clever response must be extolled far and wide, for such grace, intelligence, and generosity are too rarely displayed in our Industry.
Be that as it may, we don't feel competent to make a final determination as to whether the returns were expressions of brilliant wit or doltish paranoia. We thought it best to let you form your own conclusion. By clicking on the names, you can view the representative correspondence from CAA and Universal Studios. We have redacted the names of the individuals at these organizations who received the Book, as we have no evidence whatsoever that they in fact were even given the opportunity to read the Book themselves.
